Most calm interiors get there by being warm and soft everywhere — comfortable, but they read as hotel. I keep the calm and keep a spine: half the room cold and mineral, the other half alive. Calm the way a museum is calm, not the way a spa is.
Photography follows completion. Until then, each project is shown by what it is made of.
Two zones — kitchen and living — separated by an imperceptible seam: one palette changing weight rather than two palettes. Cold grey for half the room, clay and plaster green for the other, copper that will age, one point of chrome. Leathered stone that works instead of posing; exposed light with hard shadow.
Founded and run with my partner. Full interior planned and designed in-house, from concept and space planning to brand and printed matter — and tested every evening at service pace.
A study in getting a small room to hold storage, sleep and a desk without losing the ceiling height that makes an Altbau worth living in.
The other half of the practice: interiors specified so that a fleet of service robots can be introduced later without works. See HRED.
A style is something you can copy. A principle is something you can defend.
Every colour in my palettes is named after a substance — concrete, limestone, unfired clay, lime plaster, copper. People do not remember a hue; they remember what it felt like to touch. A room built from material memory reads as calm without anyone having to explain why.
We spend the day touching glass. Leathered stone, stretched textile, lime plaster, cane and jute give the hand something back. The shell keeps its flat planes and visible mass; the softness lives entirely in what you touch.
Flat, shadowless lighting makes everything look like a rendering. Exposed fixtures, aimed beams, washed surfaces — light with a direction — so the room has depth at nine in the evening, not only at noon.
Copper turns green, leather darkens, oak silvers. A material that changes while you own it invites custody rather than ownership — and custody is what turns a house into a home.
As a student practice, I take on studies and collaborative projects to learn and to build a portfolio. If you have a space that could be a study, or feedback on the work above, write to me.
